The Coronation Park was created in 1934, when the seawall was extended. On May 12, 1937 conservationists and war veterans organized the largest ceremonial planting of its time in Canada. A royal oak tree was planted in tribute to King George VI and surrounded by a ring of silver maples and oak trees. A grove of maple trees was also planted in memory of the many Canadian troops who fought overseas. In Autumn the fallen leaves transform the park.
