Ely, Nevada - Hank Vogler's Need More Sheep Company raises sheep in north Spring Valley, with permits to graze them on this land managed by the U.S. Forest Service. The Forest Service uses the enclosure at right to ensure that land near water sources is not over-grazed. Nevada ranchers are opposing the Southern Nevada Water Authority's plan to build a 300-mile pipeline to pump billions of gallons of water annually to Las Vegas. They fear the removal of so much water from their valleys would dry up their springs and make ranching impossible.
