Senyar Festival is held annually at Katara Cultural Village, Qatar. Pearl diving was one of the major industries in Qatar, stretching from ancient times until the 1950s. The Senyar annual marine competition is comprised of fishing and pearl diving contests for Qatari nationals with valuable prizes allocated to the winning contestants. Dhow boats go out to sea for 4 days to fish and dive for pearls. The championship aims to revive ancestral heritage whilst highlighting the traditions, customs and values associated with Qatari marine life. The experiences of arduous diving voyages of the past centuries included the admirable exertion of patience and persistence. -The dhow must be made of wood (traditional or modern), ready for sailing and equipped with safety and navigation devices. -The team consists of 10 to 12 participants. -All participants must be Qatari nationals, with a possibility of having one GCC national participant. -The fishing competition relies on lane fishing, net fishing or pearl diving
