Haw Par Villa The park, originally called the "Tiger Balm Gardens", was built in 1937 by brothers Aw Boon Haw and Aw Boon Par, the developers of Tiger Balm ointment, as a venue for teaching traditional Chinese values. The site on a hillside in Pasir Panjang Road was purchased by Aw in 1935. Haw Par Villa is like no other place in the world, with over 1, 000 statues and 150 dioramas that dramatise Chinese legends and folklore. Founded on Chinese legends and values, this historical theme park has large, imposing statues from famous legends of old – featuring characters like Fu Lu Shou, Confucius and the Laughing Buddha. A little away form the City Centre a half day visit to the park is an off-beat and interesting view of older Singapore. The Circle Line station, Haw Par Villa MRT Station (CC25), located next to it, will open in 2011 along with the rest of Stage 5 of the Circle Line
