This gargoyle was carved in honor of the Washington National Cathedral's "Master Carver." The gargoyle holds onto his hat to avoid "blowing his top, " which the Master Carver was known to do. The Washington National Cathedral in Washington, DC is home to more than 200 stone-carved gargoyles. The purpose of the gargoyles were to both keep evil out of the cathedral and to serve as a water drainage system in torrential rain - the water pours out of the mouth of the gargoyle.
