This scene is from a scroll found in the tomb of an ancient Egyptian named Ani (pictured far left), an official at court during the 19th Dynasty - New Kingdom). The scroll had hymns, prayers, and spells —the so-called Book of the Dead - to help Ani make a successful crossing to the next life. Here, Ani is kneeling before Osiris, the god of the dead (the underworld. Osiris, is shown seated on his throne in the underworld. Behind him are the goddesses Isis (right - headdress in shape of throne) and Nepththys (left - headdress in shape of house and basket). In front of Osiris, on a lotus flower are figures of the four children of Horus, the children of Osiris and Isis. The skin of Osiris is green, the symbol of regeneration and rebirth. He holds the royal scepter and flail.
