The Knight Anole, Anolis equestris, is a species of lizard in the family Polychrotidae. It is native to Cuba, but has been introduced into the Dade and Broward counties of Florida. Although these lizards are diurnal, after sunning themselves on asphalt, rocks, or sidewalks, they can hunt into the night on occasion. Their diet consists of prey like tarantulas and other anoles. The Knight Anole is the largest of all anoles and grows to a length of 13 to 20 inches including the tail. It is fiercely territorial becoming quite aggressive if anything comes within close proximity of its grounds. It will face almost any intruder it perceives to be a threat. It will sit high on all fours, gape menacingly, turn green, and bob its head. They will also puff themselves up with air and the male will display a dewlap (a reddish-white flap underneath their chin).
