The Parliament Palace commonly is known as the ‘House of the People’ (Casa Poporului) is a massive white, marble structure office building, distinguished in its architectural style of the post-Communist era, built between 1984-1989 by the late Communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu. The palace is one of the biggest (third in terms of volume after the Cape Canaveral) buildings in Europe and second biggest in the world (after the Pentagon) and was designed, furnished by Romanian architects using purely Romanian materials. Today some of the great halls are used to house the Romanian Parliament (the Chamber of Deputies and Senate), as well as International Conferences, banquets and the National Museum of Contemporary Art.
