Although it's one of the most spectacular monastic complexes in Cappadocia, very few things are known about the Selime Monastery. It was built (better say "carved") inside some very impressive cones, by Christian monks around the 13th century. There are quite a few churches there, that had many frescoes, but nowadays most of them are destroyed. The most impressive thing there is the almost perfect shape of the cones if you see them from the outside, and also the size of the churches that are relatively big, compared to other rock cut churches in other places of Cappadocia. Here you can see the "cookshop" of the monastic complex. The path that leads to Selime monastery is an attraction of its own. You'll have to climb a steep path, passing through beautiful tunnels and carves stairs. something you should not miss if you ever visit Cappadocia!
