Zaha Hadid's Riverside Museum. Glasgow, Scotland, UK. Press Launch with Architect Zaha Hadid. Glasgow's new waterfront home for the city's unique collection of transport , engineering and shipbuilding legacy which made Glagow great . Designed by Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid. This is her first major public commission to open in the UK. The seventy four million pound glass and zinc clad museum stands beside the River Clyde and is able to house over 3, 000 items from the collection inside the pistachio coloured interior. Vintage cars sit alongside steam locomotive engines, diesels, bikes and skateboards. Three walk through 1900s street scene gives visitors a flavour of a bygone Glagow and over 150 interactive displays telling the stories of the people who made the term 'Clyde Built' brings the experience up to date. It also houses the city's unrivalled ship model collection. Outside, the refitted Tall Ship Glenlee is moored in front of the museums dramatic south facade. After getting the go-ahead in 2002, work on-site at the historic Pointhouse Quay, began in 2007, with the main contractors BAM, using 2, 500 tonnes contructing the roof , without any internal supporting columns in a feat of architectural engineering innovation.
