The erection of the monumental Temple in the sanctuary of Apollo is within the policy of the Roman emperors for extensive programmes of renovation in Cyprus. During the first phase of this programme date to Emperor Augustus a simple rectangular building with a cella and vestibule was constructed without columns. The temple was reconstructed on a stepped platform in the time of Emperor Trajan as a small tetrastyle prostyle temple with a cella and vestibule in antis and unfluted calcareous columns with capitals of the Napatean style known as Cypro-Corinthian
