The statue/ memorial of the patriot female amazon who defended Kotsinas hamlet castle against the Turkish / Ottoman Empire armada in 1478 b.c. Her name was Mary (endearing name Mairoula / Maroula in Greek). Facts stating that during a Turkish landing operation, Maroula's father was killed in the battle fighting against Ottomans. She was present in the battle and saw her father dying fighting for freedom. She was about 18 years old. Suddenly she took her father's armour and raising her sword, rode towards the Turks. Greeks breathe courage by her and fought aggressively against Turks which abandoned their operation. After this historical achievement Maroula entered the Greek historical and heroic personality hall of fame.
