The old and well-known department store Magasin du Nord at Kongens Nytorv in Copenhagen, Denmark. Company roots go back to 1868 when Theodor Wessel and Emil Vett opened a draper's shop in Aarhus under the name of Emil Vett & Co. The business soon became a success and moved 1871 to the town Immervad, where it is still housed. In 1870 the company opened a shop in Copenhagen in rented premises at the then fine Hotel du Nord. More and more space was rented from the hotel and in 1879 all departments in Denmark were renamed to share the name Magasin du Nord deriving from the Copenhagen hotel. In 1893-94 the old hotel was demolished and the present building was built in French Renaissance Revival (Neo-Renaissance) style.
