Danish late medieval religious fresco paintings: Massacre of the Innocents. (Left side:) the Devil explain the evil plan to Herod. (Right side:) A band of warriors - cheerful and elegant dressed - doing the killings. One with a child on his lanse and (below, right) another kills a baby in the cradle while the mother in despair sterch her arms out to the killer, while another mother banks her spinning wheel against a soldiers head. This painting from around year 1450 is from Moerkoev (Danish: (Mørkøv) church on Zealnd, Denmark. The church roof is filled up with paintings created by the famous Isefjordsmaster and showing the life of Jesus Christ, from birth to crucifixion. As the medieval sermon was held in latin, which the villagers did not understand, the frescos function as a pictue book. in this church all frescos are political correct, but in many churches frescos could be directly profane and more or less pornographic, with or without religious motive as an excuse. After the Reformation many fresco paintings was painted over all around the country, including those in this church, which, however, was rediscovered around 1040
