This image is exclusive to Alamy. This viewpoint is from the southern edge of Kinder Scout looking south west during the last half hour of light on this Autumn day. Crowden Clough is in the foreground shadow area with the moorland on its its highest point in the evening sunlight. Crowden Tower is on the right. In the distance is Colbourne Moor. Kinder Scout is a peat bog moorland plateau on gritstone in the north of Derbyshire in England. It rises to a height of 636 metres (2, 087 ft) and is situated at the southern tip of the Pennines which run from Derbyshire to Scotland. In 1932 the then private moorland was the target of a mass trespass eventually leading to the creation of National Parks throughout Britain. Below the southern edges of Kinder Scout is the village of Edale where the Pennine Way, a long walk to Scotland, starts (or ends). Walking on Kinder Scout can be difficult, even dangerous in poor weather (which is not infrequent) but remains popular with walkers.
