Second City Theater, amnimprovisational comedy club in Chicago's Old Town neighborhood expanded to assume space in a former movie theater in Pipers Alley on North Avenue. The original Second City that opened in 1959 remains in operation just around the corner on Wells Street. During its time Second City has been has consistently been a starting point for comedians, award winning actors, directors, and others in show business. Some of its famous alumni include Alan Arkin, Joan Rivers, Peter Boyle, Jim Belushi, John Candy, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Gild Radner and Chris Farley to name just a few. The Old Town area contains upscale residences centered by an entertainment area of clubs, theaters and restaurants including Second City.
