Weitere Informationen:
Canyon de Chelly is unique among American National Park Service units, consisting entirely of Navajo Tribal Trust Land that remains home to a community farming the fertile valley the way their ancestors did centuries ago. It was established in 1931 as a unit of the National Park Service and is located in northeastern Arizona within the boundaries of the Navajo Nation. The monument encompasses three major canyons whose steep, stained sandstone walls preserve ancient ruins of the once-thriving Anasazi Indians. There are over 700 ruin sites, petroglyphs and cliff dwellings in a landscape of great historical and spiritual significance.
