This Brown Vine Snake (Oxybelis aeneus), showed its defense position by cocking its neck into a strike position and opening its mouth. This snake is not venomous, but puts on a very intimidating display, and bites can still be painful. This snake was photographed on the edge of a beach near the town of Manzanillo on Costa Rica's Caribbean coast.
