Ornamental kale, botanically Brassically Brassica oleracea var sabellica, formerly placed under var acephala, is a member of family Brassicaceae, formerly Cruciferae. Most members are Brassica are vegetable crops, this variety with colourful spreading leaves in a compact rosette is often grown for decorative purposes in flower pots. Leaves occur in different colour with fringed or wavy margins. The plants should not be allowed to flower/bolt as they spoil decorative value of plant. Any flowering tops appearing should be pinched/removed. The flowers are orange yellow in colour. The plant meant for producing seeds for next crop should be allowed to produce flowers and seeds, and pods allowed to ripe.
