The art installation 'Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red', by Paul Cummins opened on 5 August 2014, the 100th anniversary of the first full day of fighting following the outbreak of the First World War (WW1) the previous day. The work eventually comprised 888, 246 ceramic poppies, each representing the death of a member of the British or Colonial forces during WW1. The final poppy was placed on 11 November 2014. Here, tourists catch a final view of Blood Swept Lands & Seas of Red, before it is finally cleared by hundreds of volunteers These poppies differ from the main installation, in that they are merely placed on the stonework at the extremity of the moat
