Weitere Informationen:
Balintore is a village near Tain in Easter Ross, Scotland. It is one of three villages on this northern stretch of the Moray Firth coastline - Hilton, Balintore, and Shandwick are known collectively as the Seaboard Villages. Local employment has long been based on fishing, but this is now only a small part of the local economy. Balintore has a large harbour, built c.1890. With two shops, a post office, a chip shop, one pub and a small hotel/pub, Balintore holds a small but friendly community. Balintore was recently given a boost by the opening of a new village hall, which includes a café. Has a red sandstone cliff at the bottom of which may be found fossils. Above the village stands an ancient cross slab, sometimes described as an obelisk, bearing bosses and animal figures which is now encased in a glass unit to prevent further erosion of the writings and pictures. The area already has a sculpture trail inspired by the many Pictish stone carvings and standing stones around the Seaboard villages of Shandwick, Hilton and Balintore.
