The Anasazi, meaning the 'ancient ones', were Indian tribes that settled mostly in what is not Arizona living mostly in sandstone cliff dwellings and then suddenly and mysteriously disappeared about 800 years ago. Betatakin, in Northern Arizona, is one of the largest cliff dwelling with around 125 rooms. Navajo National Monument preserves three 13th-century cliff dwellings. Betatakin is in a sandstone arch that is so big it makes the village within it look small; Keet Seel is the largest cliff dwelling in Arizona and is very well preserved.
