The ancient Egyptian goddess Nephthys was the daughter of Nut, the goddess of the sky. She was married to her brother Set, but her loyalties were with her brother Osiris. Her name in hieroglyphs (spelled Nebhet, Nebethet, or Nebthet) meant Lady of the House, which is thought to be a reference to the Palace of Osiris. Here she is pictured holding in her left hand an ankh, the Egyptian symbol of life. Above her head are the hieroglyphs of her name, a basket and a house, stacked on top of each other.
