Weitere Informationen:
Horse Guards Parade is a large parade ground off Whitehall in central London, at grid reference TQ299800. It is the site of the annual ceremonies of Trooping the Colour, which commemorates the monarch's official birthday, and Beating Retreat. The Old Admiralty Building, is the largest of the Admiralty Buildings. It was begun in the late 19th century and redesigned while the construction was in progress to accommodate the extra offices needed due to the naval arms race with the German Empire. It is a red brick building with white stone detailing in the Queen Anne style with French influences. It has been used by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office since the 1960s. The Department for Education will move into the building in September 2017 following the Foreign and Commonwealth Office's decision to leave the building and consolidate its London staff into one building on King Charles Street. The Admiralty Extension dates from the turn of the 20th century and is the largest of the five buildings belonging to the so-called Admiralty complex. Located in the very heart of London, it is adjacent to significant landmarks like the Buckingham Palace, the Palace of Westminster or Trafalgar Square. Since the Admiralty—the authority responsible for the command of the Royal Navy—no longer exists as a department, the government uses these properties as an office array. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has been using the Old Admiralty Building since the ‘60s and the Department for Education will move into the building, following the renovations. The FCO consolidates its London staff into the Foreign Office’s King Charles Street Office in 2015. A design procurement process goes ahead of the maintenance work, including consultation with Westminster City Council planning and English Heritage. The 193, 750 square feet of office space will serve more than 1, 600 DfE employees who are currently working in leasehold accommodation.
