The Chingay Parade is held in Singapore as part of Chinese New Year festivities every year. The term Chingay itself originated in Southeast Asia, particularly in Penang, Malaysia. There are local and international performers on the numerous floats that pass through the city. It has been held in both Orchard Road and City Hall areas since 2000 and now is centred on the F1 pit stops area. Local schools and communities groups can be seen on the cavalcade as well as musicians and dancers from all over the world. Each year often has its own theme. The parade is often preceded by rehearsals on the days before, so it may be possible to actually see it more than once. It is turning into a massive tourist attraction. The modern parade has evolved into a massive multi-cultural and international event which is broadcast live on television every year. Overall it is one big party.
