Digital alteration noted is the removal of small, reversed type at bottom of photo indicating the title, image number, and photographer's initials on original print. The reversed type on the print said "ADDISON'S WALK, MAGDALEN COLLEGE, OXFORD. 7465. G.W.W." ------ Addison's Walk, which was originally called Water Walk, is a scenic footpath around a small island in the River Cherwell within the grounds of Magdalen College, Oxford, England. The footpath likely dates from the 1500s and later became known as Addison's Walk in the 1800s, named after Joseph Addison (1672-1719), a Fellow of the College. In September of 1931 authors C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien and Hugo Dyson had a late-night, now-famous conversation that played a significant role in Lewis's personal journey to faith in Christ and the then-future writings of Lewis and Tolkein, Including The Chronicles of Narnia, The Hobbit, and Lord of the Rings.
