Weitere Informationen:
Blue sky summer evening view grey white stratocumulus clouds over Jackson Hole valley and Teton Mountains, looking south from the footpath to Lunch Tree Hill, Jackson Lake Lodge, Wyoming. The view includes the flat-topped Mount Moran at 3842 metres or 12, 305 feet, Thor Peak at 3666 metres, Mount Saint John at 3458 metres, the Grand Teton at 4199 metres or 13, 770 feet, the Middle Teton at 3903 metres, South Teton and 3814 metres and peaks beyond. The Grand Teton, the highest peak in the Teton Range, may have been so-named by 19th Century French fur-trappers, being derived from the French 'large teat'. The name, alternatively, may derive from the Teton Sioux. Mount Moran was named after landscape artist, Thomas Moran, who travelled north of the Teton Range to Yellowstone with the Hayden Expedition in 1871. His sketches and watercolours helped popularise Yellowstone as the world's first national park.
