It divides the Earth into a western andeastern hemisphere, and uses colour to markdifferent areas of land. The map is by Guillaumede landamp;apos;Isle (1675-1726), the leading Frenchcartographer of the eighteenth century. He wasappointed Premier Geographe du Roi to King LouisXV in 1718. This edition of his world map includesthe western and northern coastlines of Australia, mapped by the Dutch. Australiaandamp;apos;s eastern coastlinewould not be mapped until 1770.
