The Shanghai Tower, China's tallest skyscraper, will soon open for business, according to Chinese media. The 632-meter-tall tower in Lujiazui in Shanghai's Pudong area, is second only to Dubai's Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building. Although a fixed opening date has yet to be set, the Shanghai Tower's management said a high-speed elevator had already been installed to take visitors to a viewing platform on the 119th floor in just 55 seconds, Shanghai Morning News reported. At its maximum speed, the lift would travel at 18 meters a second. The tower boasts 126 storeys, but its top floor would be restricted to private events such as small concerts or art exhibitions, the management said. The viewing platform, which will be open to public, will have souvenir shops and a photo exhibition of the world's most famous skyscrapers.
