St Michael and All Angels Church, Church Bank, Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne & Wear, c1955-c1980. An exterior view of St Michael and All Angels Church, showing the south porch in the foreground, with south aisle and west tower in the background. The church has an 11th century tower, and Norman nave and chancel, with other components of the church, including the porch and clerestory, added later. The south porch is gabled and has a projecting niche with a statue of St Michael, with a large pair of wings, a helmet and holding a sword and shield. On either side are two shield-shaped crests. Underneath is a double panelled door with pointed arch surround, and on the corners are buttresses. Behind is the south aisle, with a sloping roof tapering up towards the three stage tower. The tower has a round clock face on the second stage and paired belfry opening on the upper stage. Above is a plain parapet, which obscures the pyramidal roof and weathervane.
