SWANS ARRIVING AT WELNEY WASHES, CAMBS, AT SUNSET ON NOV 5TH 2013. Britain's real-life swan lake is getting busy as thousands of birds descend on the shallow washes in East Anglia for the winter.More than 2, 000 Whoopers have already arrived at the Welney Wetland Centre in Cambridgeshire - the largest swan roost in the country.The swans spend their summer in Iceland, northern Scandinavia and Russia, where they breed, before flying more than 500 miles to spend the winter in the UK.Their numbers are expected to increase to 6, 000 by January and they will soon be joined by up to 3, 000 Bewick's swans, which travel from Siberia."The swans have arrived on time this year and it looks like a real winter wildlife spectacle out on the reserve now, " said Emma Brand, from Welney Wetland Centre."There are already about 2, 000 Whooper swans and about 25 Bewick's swans and as soon as the wind changes direction we expect more to arrive."
