The newly refurbished Irvine Townhouse opened to the public in July 2017. Built in 1862 the Townhouse was designed by James Ingram of Kilmarnock. The Irvine Townhouse offers both a Genealogy and Local History Service along with a varied programme of Events and Exhibitions. The Genealogy and Local History Service brings together a comprehensive range of unique materials relating to North Ayrshire’s rich past, which includes books, local newspaper archives, digital maps, photographs and genealogy resources. To avoid disappointment it is best to book a slot in advance. The facility has study space and high-speed wifi. There is a varied programme of exhibitions within the Townhouse. The John Galt and Montgomery galleries both host a changing programme of art and heritage based exhibitions. The stunning Burns Suite is an event space where larger exhibitions, cultural and civic events and wedding ceremonies can be hosted. Attached to town house is the Portal a multi function space with leisure facilities which replaced the older Magnum centre
