A close up photograph of plaque psoriasis, a common inflammatory skin disease characterised by rounded patches with thick, dry, silvery scales. Plaque psoriasis is the most common type of psoriasis. The lesions have a predilection for nails, scalp, genitalia, and the lumbosacral region. Accelerated epidermopoiesis is considered to be the fundamental pathologic feature in psoriasis. It is caused by the body making too many skin cells. A swelling of small joints may go along with the skin disease. Treatment includes hormone creams, ultraviolet light, tar soap baths, creams and shampoos.
