Class 350 Desiro electric multiple unit (EMU) train 350 404 arriving at Wigan North Western Station, Lancashire. The class 350/4 units have been introduced by First TransPennine Express on their TransPennine North West route, running from Manchester to Glasgow and Edinburgh via the West Coast Main Line from December 2013, following completion of the first stage of the north west railway electrification. The units were built by German multi-national Siemens AG. The train has entered service painted plain grey and is waiting repainting into First Transpennine Express livery. Their introduction has prompted protests from passengers in Bolton and Chorley as the service from these towns to Manchester has been reduced as a result of re-routing the Transpennine Express trains on to the newly electrified lines through to join the West Coast Main Line south of Wigan.
