Grandmas and grandpas from all across the city of Binzhou, Shandong province lined up to get rice and oil during a promotion by a local company yesterday (3 May 2015), the third day of the May holiday. It was free. It was madness. It's estimated that around 10, 000 people waited in line to collect gifts from the company, which was handing out 5, 000 bags of rice and 5, 000 bottles of oil for a bit of good publicity, China Daily reports. People began showing up with stools at around 2:00 a.m. that morning for the free goodies being distributed. Security guards were dispatched to the scene that day to maintain order among the crowds of people, most of whom were elderly folk just eager to get a good deal. At one point, the line stretched on for more than two kilometers, according to news portal Beijing Youth Network.
