Two Chinese taxi booking mobile apps for smartphones backed by internet giants Tencent and Alipay have been heating up their battle. Didi, imitating the beep of a car, is working with Tencents WeChat, while Kuaidi, which means finding a taxi swiftly, has joined hands with Alipay for payment means. They are now both applying for financial settlement approval to attract users and drivers. They will give promotional fees to taxi drivers for each deal made, and also discount 10 yuan for each trip, when a customer books a taxi through the app and pays the fare through mobile payment. Didi received $18 million funding from GSR Ventures and Tencent in the previous two financing round. In the third financing round, it received $100 million, part of it from Tencent. Kuaidi in June 2013, received $8 million from Alibaba, and merged with another taxi service company Bumblebee.
