Dickson House Interior - Historical photograph dated 1940 Sheikh Ahmad Al Jabir with British Political Agent at the British Embassy. Dickson House - the home of Col. Dickson, the first British Commissioner in Kuwait. Originally built in 1870 by a Kuwaiti merchant, in 1929 the house was given to Britain to use as residential headquarters. It is an excellent example of early Kuwaiti architecture. In 1990, the house became the responsibility of the National Council for Culture Arts and letters. The house is fondly remembered by Kuwaitis. The house has been beautifully restored and is well worth a visit. Some of the old photographs and letters give a fascinating glimpse into the historical links between Britain and Kuwait.
