Inside the Palazzina Presidenziale (Presidential Building), a set has been created to allow visitors to become immersed in the history of great movies and film genres, hear stories and discover fun facts through a selection of images, videos, interviews and original costumes worn by such movie stars as Liz Taylor, Claudia Cardinale, Richard Burton and many others. Since 2011, Cinecitta Studios has been open to the public with the project 'Cinecitta Shows Off', a cultural initiative which aims at presenting the rich architectural heritage of the famed Dream Factory, offering for the first time the chance to visit the grand outdoor sets and the historic buildings whose halls host a number of themed exhibitions. The showcased scenes, costumes, props, footage and period photographs narrate the history of Cinecittà and of the film productions that have contributed to its legend since 1937. As soon as it opened, 'Cinecitta Shows Off' began offering educational initiatives with the goal of letting young people explore the history of cinema and its trades. Cinecitta includes 22 indoor sound stages and a number of outdoor sets that from time to time undergo different setups according to the needs of the ongoing film and TV productions. Three large permanent sets can be toured every day with specialized guides. Cinecitta was built in 1937 under dictator Benito Mussolini who valued film-making as an important propaganda tool. During its so-called Hollywood-on-the-Tiber heyday of the 1950s and 60s, the studio complex hosted major international productions including Cleopatra, starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, and the multiple-Oscar winning Ben-Hur, starring Charlton Heston.
