Reflections and remnants of the space race, and a moving memorial to the astronauts who perished aboard the space shuttles Challenger and Columbia, are to be found at the International Space Hall of Fame, and John P Stapp Air and Space Park in Alamogordo, New Mexico. New Mexico Museum of Space History is a state museum housing artifacts related to space flight. It incorporates the International Space Hall of Fame. Ham the Astrochimp is buried here. Ham, the first chimpanzee in space, was trained at Holloman; his name is an acronym for Holloman Aero Medical. His flight occurred on January 31, 1961.[25] After Ham died in 1983 at age 27, his body was necropsied and the skeleton removed. The remaining soft parts of his body were buried in front of the New Mexico Museum of Space History in Alamogordo.
