Inner Courtyard Of State Parliament building and green dome of St. Nikolaikirche, Potsdam, Brandenburg The Parliament Building is a reconstruction of the Seventeenth Century Baroque City Palace, Potsdam, Brandenburg. The Baroque City Palace was constructed 1662 to 1669 during the reign of Prince-Elector Friedrich Wilhelm and was rebuilt from 1744 to 1752 by Georg Wenzeslaus von Knobelsdorff under Friedrich II. It was an excellent example of the Frederician Rococo. It was destroyed by a British air raid in April 1945 and ruling Communist party, the SED Politburo, demolished the ruin in 1959/1960 for ideological reasons. In 2000 the Potsdam City Council voted for reconstruction, but this had real no support at the state level, and at the time, there was a recession. The initial plan was to rebuild the historical Northern Façade with modern interior and wings . A donation of 20€ Million by Hasso Plattner allowed the reconstruction of the entire historical façade and a copper roof. In October 2013, the new state parliament building was completed. The plans of Architect Prof. Peter Kulka restored the entire outer shape of the Knobelsdorff facade and the inner courtyard. Today, the most modern state parliament building in the Federal Republic is located inside.
