Grand National winning jockey Bob Champion on his charity walk at Jonjo O'Neill's yard Jackdaws Castle in the Cotswolds raising funds for the Bob Champion Cancer Trust. Bob is half way through his marathon trek which started from Aintree on 11 April, the day after the Randox Grand National 2021, the 191 mile route represents the 191 days from Bob's diagnosis on 24th July 1979, his months of gruelling treatment to then receiving the all clear on 31st January 1980 before going on to win the Grand National the following year. Starting early while the horses were still on the gallops Bob said "We've got two research labs which we set up and run but we've not been able to do any fundraiser for a year, so we came up with this idea for the walk. "Other charities are suffering like us and I wanted to do something to raise money for the Bob Champion Cancer Trust. "The target is to raise £40, 000 but of course we'd like to raise more. "I did 45 miles last week around the gallops, 25 so far this week and I plan to do 7 mikes today which should take a couple of hours." This 40th Anniversary walk will cover the 191 miles in 40 memorable stops, all connected to his remarkable life story and representing every year from 1981 - 2021. It will finish at Findon, the place where Aldanti was trained and where the Gifford family carry on the family legacy. The stops include trainer's yards and places of interest such as Barkfold Manor, where Aldaniti lived in retirement and is buried. At each place, Bob will walk up and down the gallops, or in a circuit, and well-known people will join him along the way.
