According to reports in the Chinese media, Gucci China has been mending defective products and reselling them to unknowing customers, based on accounts by sources within the Italian fashion house. The chief communication officer of Gucci in China denied the allegation, saying reselling secondhand goods was unlikely and some of its products were a repeat of an earlier line. A lawyer from the Beijing-based Xinping Law Firm said Gucci would be committing fraud if it was confirmed of recycling used products without informing customers. The China-based National Business Daily reported on its website that a woman brought a pricy Gucci bag with a faulty handle to an outlet and asked to have it replaced, according to communication records obtained from the outlet. The repair personnel at the store informed the company of the request, which granted a replacement, according to the correspondence. The sources revealed that repaired products would be sold as new from stores and no information about the items history would be made public.
