The Amazing Spider-Man 2 ruled Chinas box office by taking in 153 million yuan (about US$24.8 million) in the week ending May 18. The action-adventure, which opened in Chinese theaters on May 4, has earned 505 million yuan (US$81 million), according to a China Film News report on Tuesday (20 May 2014). Second spot went to Zhang Yimous Coming Home, which raked in 83 million yuan (US$13.3 million) in its opening weekend. The romance, starring Gong Li and Chen Daoming, is Zhangs first film since he joined Le Vision Pictures last May. It was thought Coming Home would knock Spider-Man off the top spot, with the superhero story nearing the end of its screening run.
