F-Set Train at Farewell Run of S-Set Trains in Sydney, NSW, Australia. Following the retirement of the S-Sets, Transport Heritage NSW in collaboration with Sydney Trains, the Sydney Electric Train Society and Historic Electric Traction operated a special combined farewell event on Sunday, 21 July 2019. After more than four decades in operation the last of Sydney's S-set train fleet has been retired, meaning all of Sydney Trains' rollingstock is now air-conditioned. The S sets were a class of electric multiple unit operated by Sydney Trains from 1972 up until 2019. The carriages were of stainless steel, double deck construction. The class operated in New South Wales, Australia and was the oldest in the Sydney Trains fleet until June 2019, when they were replaced by the Waratah Series 2 (B Set) trains. Prior to their retirement, the S Sets were the only class in the entire fleet that was not air-conditioned, earning them the nicknames "Tin cans", "Sweat Sets" and "Ridgys". Three generations of electric trains, including Sydney's 1920s red vintage electric set 'F1', a retiring 1970s S-Set and Sydney Trains' newest Waratah train 'B24' - delivered in June 2019, travelled side by side from Central to Western Sydney and back.
