The Emin Minaret (Su Gong Ta or Turpan Tower), was built in 1777 to commemorate Emin Khoja's (ruler of Turpan) military success in suppressing the armed rebellion raised by the Junger aristocrats. Constructed of sun dried bricks and is decorated with various delicate geometric and floral patterns distributed in a ring shape on the exterior. The adjoining Mosque is the largest in Turpan. Turpan was a stop on the northern branch of the Silk Road and the highest temperatures in China are recorded in the area.
