Single women dressed in wedding gowns hold bouquets of flowers and balloons before Singles' Day at the Wanda Square in Chongqing, China, 9 November 2014. A total of 10 single women donning wedding gowns were photographed this past week giving away clusters of flowers and colorful balloons to pedestrians while sprinting 100 meters through a square in Chongqing while shouting: "I'm a single bride! I'm not afraid of being single!" The gathering was a way for participants to express their views about the pressure mounted on women to a boyfriend before Singles' Day, which is on Nov. 11. Before the event, a dating website based in Chongqing carried out a survey on love and marriage, and found that 80 percent of single, female respondents were not afraid of being "leftover" women. They said they didn't mind being single if they couldn't find their "Mr. Right", according to the news report. Residents gathered around to watch and cheered on the single brides who raced in the event.
