A Chinese doctor adjusts an artificial limb made from 3D printing before it is installed on the left hand of six-year-old Xiao Cheng who lost the five fingers of his left hand at Wuhan Union Hospital in Wuhan city, central China's Hubei province, 28 May 2015. A handicapped Chinese boy received an artificial limb for free on Thursday (28 May 2015) as gift for the upcoming Children's Day which falls on June 1. Xiao Cheng, 6, lost all the five fingers and half palm of his left hand in a traffic accident when he was only 4. Both of his parents are working as migrants in another city and the poor family is not able to afford the use of an ordinary artificial limb which cost about 100, 000 yuan (US$16, 000) in China. Chen Zhenbing, the surgery director with Wuhan Union Hospital where Xiao Cheng had his fingers and half palm amputated, helped the boy liaise with a hi-tech company to make an artificial limb from 3D printing for free. It took the company seven hours to "print out" a hand which enables Xiao Cheng to hold, carry light things and do some simple jobs.
