Rene Lalique produced an array of glass architectural items The Lalique Glass at St Matthews Church (The Glass Church) Millbrook, Jersey British Isles. The glass for which St.Matthew's Church is famous, was not installed until 1934. Lady Florence Trent commissioned Monsieur Rene Lalique of Paris to refurbish the interior of the church in memory of her late husband, Jesse Boot, founder of the well-known U.K. stores Boots the chemist. The work was completed in collaboration with local architect, A.B. Grayson, and has resulted in the unique interior you see today The font, is believed to be the only full-sized glass font in the world. The floor and the pillars supporting the twin screens are of Portland stone. The walls are lined with Bath stone. The glass in the windows are decorated with Jersey lilies. The symmetry of the church is accentuated by the twin pulpit and lectern. The sanctuary, usually at the East end of Anglican churches, is situated at the south end of the building. The Communion Table, made of frosted glass, stands in front of a dominating glass cross, over four metres high. The Cross, flanked by two pillars, contains concealed lighting that, when lit, displays the glass to the best advantage. The cross and pillars are decorated with Madonna lilies. The Lady Chapel, to the left, has a beautiful reredos composed of four angels, complementing the designs in the main doors of the church. The area containing the organ console behind the glass screen to the right, has a floor made of sharkskin.
