This is the close conjunction of bright Venus (at magnitude -3.9) and much dimmer Mars (at magnitude +1.3) as the pair was rising at dawn on February 22, 2024. They were about 40 arc minutes apart this morning. I shot this from home in southern Alberta at latitude 51º N, so they are very low and rose not long before the Sun. As it was, Mars just barely showed up on the image as a faint fuzzy spot, so I did emphasize its visibility here somewhat. With it dim, low and blurred by the atmosphere, Mars was not visible in binoculars and showed up just in the images, though barely. However, it made for a fine morning to enjoy the sight of Venus rising in the colourful twilight, with the owls hooting nearby. This is a single 1/30 second exposure with the RF70-200mm lens at 200mm and f/4 and Canon R5 at ISO 100.
