The rear of the Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos, also known as the Alcazar of Cordoba, is a medieval palace/ fortress in the historic centre of Cordoba in Andalusia, southern Spain. The Alcazar of Cordoba became a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1994, the fourth listed site for any city in the world. The others in Cordoba are the Mosque-Cathedral (1984), the historical quarter surrounding the Mosque/ Cathedral (1994) the Festival of the Patios (Courtyards) (2012) and Medina Azahara (2018). The well-preserved Alcazar of Cordoba with its long gardens is a few minutes walk to the Mosque-Cathedral, and next to the Guadalquivir River. The palace became the residence to the first King and Queen of Spain, Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella I of Castile, who were the first monarchs which led to the unification of Spain in 1469, Ferdinand 11 and Isabella 1st are also known for funding the voyage of Christopher Columbus to explore the New World – the Americas.
